Heart Tests

ECG – Checking your heart’s electrical activity
An Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a quick, painless test that records the electrical activity of your heart. It helps detect irregular rhythms, signs of previous heart attacks, or other electrical problems.

ECG

Why is it done?

Your doctor may recommend an ECG if you have symptoms such as:

  • Palpitations

  • Chest pain

  • Dizziness or fainting

  • Shortness of breath

It is also commonly used to monitor heart health in patients with risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease.

ECG

What to expect during the test

  • The test is simple and usually takes 5–10 minutes
  • Small sticky electrodes are placed on your chest, arms, and legs
  • Wires connect the electrodes to a machine that records your heart’s electrical signals
  • You will lie still while the recording is taken
At Riverina Cardiology, ECGs are performed in rooms during your consultation, so your cardiologist can review results straight away and discuss next steps without delay.
